The EAL Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Rail Engineering Track Maintenance is a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ). It is suitable for learners aged 16-18 and 19+ who are interested in pursuing a career in rail engineering track maintenance or existing workers proving their competence in track maintenance. The qualification may also be suitable for adults interested in rail engineering and considering a career change.
The qualification covers a range of duties, including preparing to undertake maintenance duties, carrying out routine inspections on permanent way infrastructure, restoring track geometry, preparing plant and equipment, maintaining switches, crossings and components of infrastructure and ensuring the track is fit for operational purposes following engineering activities. This qualification underpins the skills element for the Level 2 Rail Infrastructure Engineering in the Welsh Apprenticeship Framework.
