The EAL Level 3 SVQ in Permanent Way Installation and Maintenance at SCQF Level 6 is a Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ). It involves the skills and knowledge needed to work within Rail EngineeringPermanent Way Installation and Maintenanceat SCQF Level 6, including the ability to prepare to undertake duties and contribute to safe working practices. Optional units include carrying out planning permanent way activities, establishing track geometry and position, undertaking replacement of permanent way assets, dealing with incidents and contingencies, carrying out maintenance and allocating and monitoring resources.
The minimum age for entry is 16. This qualification is for individuals who work in the rail engineering industry and need recognition of their competence in Permanent Way Installation and Maintenance and also need a nationally recognised qualification at SCQF level 6 or individuals who wish to complete a Modern Apprenticeship in rail engineering or those who are new to Railway Engineering Permanent Way Installation and Maintenance but are looking for a career change and wish to develop and expand on their existing skills within the rail engineering industry.
