EAL, alongside West Nottinghamshire College, ECS, and AF Switchgear, has introduced a new qualification route for experienced electrical panel builders to achieve formal recognition through the ECS Gold Card.
Targeted at professionals with over five years of experience, the pathway includes the EAL Level 3 Award in Industrial and Panel Wiring, allowing skilled workers to bypass traditional apprenticeships.
The Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) endorses this route, addressing industry demand for formal recognition of experienced workers' skills. This route, known as the Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA), confirms their competencies meet industry standards.
Andy Reakes, Director of Growth and Development at the JIB & ECS, said:
“This is a significant step forward for our industry. It ensures that the valuable skills of experienced workers are recognised and rewarded, aligning with our commitment to raising standards and providing clear career pathways. It addresses a critical gap and offers a much-needed alternative to traditional apprenticeships for those who have already dedicated years to this occupation, while maintaining the rigour and practical assessment that has come to be embodied in the award of an ECS Gold card.”
Additionally, the JIB Skills Development Fund offers financial support of up to £5,000 for JIB member companies, and qualified electricians may receive up to 75% funding to transition into or enhance panel-building skills. This initiative significantly raises standards and formal recognition for panel builders within the electrotechnical industry.
EAL is proud to pioneer this pathway, which elevates the careers of experienced workers and enhances professionalism across the electrotechnical industry.
