EAL is proud to have worked with the British Fire Consortium (BFC) to develop a new regulated qualification covering the inspection of fire doors. This new qualification covers the skills and understanding to enable responsible persons to undertake quarterly and annual checks of all fire doors, including self-closing devices in the common building parts and flat entrances.
Joe Newman, British Fire Consortium (BFC) comments:
“This new fire door qualification is not just for the fire trade. It is for anyone responsible for a building’s facilities, such as caretakers and building supervisors. The BFC has pushed since the Grenfell tragedy to have fire-related training as a regulated qualification and is thrilled to have continued its successful partnership with EAL.
“It is great to work with EAL again after the successful creation and launch of the EAL Level 3 Award in the Servicing and Maintenance of Portable Fire Extinguishers, EAL has been a solid supporter of fire-related qualifications.”
Learners will be able to understand the requirements of fire doors and the standards that apply, including BS 8214, The Fire Safety (England) Regulations, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order, Building Regulations, BS 9999, and BS 9991. They will also conduct the practical inspection of doors to mirror real-world scenarios to ensure learners who undertake the award are tested on applying knowledge and demonstrating skills.
The qualification will be operational from 1 August 2024.
